It’s a modern necessary evil: social media. Say what you will about any platform -- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever -- social media is huge, will continue to be huge, and, yes, your grandma is on it. The good news is you’re guaranteed at least one “like” on each of your next 36 posts.
The newest, and by all accounts, the most popular form of digital communication at the moment is Snapchat (we’re sure you’ve heard about it). Right now, according to Snapchat, more than 60 percent of smartphone users between the ages of 13 and 34 in the U.S. are using the space, with more than 10 million videos viewed daily. The numbers are outrageous.
So you may be asking: “Ok. So a bunch of teens and Millennials are sitting there Snapping away. Why do I care about it for my wedding?” Our answer: because a bunch of teens and Millennials are sitting there Snapping away, so give them something cool to Snap about.
Snapchat has recently released a feature called Geofilters. It’s really cool. The simple explanation is you can upload a custom photo filter and outline an area on a map where Snapchat users can access your custom filter. And, guess what a perfect event for Geofilters is? Yes! A wedding!
Here’s a walkthrough on how to use this seriously awesome new feature to get your own wedding Geofilter:
Go to snapchat.com/geofilters and choose “On-Demand.”
Click “Create Now.”
Upload your custom filter.
Note: there are a few sites right now that will build a custom filter for you for $50 - $100, so if you don’t have Photoshop or Illustrator skills, that may be the route to go.
Choose the dates and time of your wedding.
It’s pretty cheap, so we suggest at least 12 hours. Snapchat will let you run the filter for 30 consecutive days.
Fence in your wedding venue.
We chose the Atlanta History Center because, we’ll, they’re pretty cool.
Then you just fork over some credit card information and you’re golden. Snapchat will approve your filters in about a day and people can start Snapping at your wedding.
Be sure to give them some good footage, like a bunch of people getting down on a dance floor. We can help with that. Drop us a line and we’ll set up a time to Snapchat back and forth -- or a phone call. Whatever medium you want.
