Do the sax and drums play every song?
No — they play when it fits, which is what makes it feel live instead of loud. On a song like September, the sax plays the actual horn line. On a hip-hop track, he’ll drop a funky riff over it. On country or rock, he steps out and lets the DJ ride. Honestly, most guests are dancing and never stop to count which songs had horns on them. They just know the room feels alive.
What’s the difference between uplights and dance lights?
They’re two different things, and every package includes dance lights. Those are the moving lights on a bar above the DJ, pointed down at the floor — that’s what makes it look like a party. Uplights are separate. They sit on the floor around the room and wash the walls in whatever color you want: gold, amber, white, blue, pink. During dinner it looks elegant. Once the lights go down for dancing, they’re also what keeps your photos from turning into faces floating in a black void — your photographer’s flash needs something behind you. Most of our couples add them.
What exactly is the photo booth?
Think selfie station, not a photographer. It’s a big ring light on a stand that takes up about two feet — no backdrop, no bin of props for people to trip over. Guests walk up, it takes three shots, and turns them into a digital photo strip with your names on it. They text it to themselves right there. The week after the wedding we send you the full gallery of every strip, which is when you find out what your friends were doing at 10pm.
Can I swap things out of a package?
Yes. Packages are a starting point, not a box. If the photo booth isn’t your thing, we take it off. If you’d rather put a cellist or violinist at the ceremony, we add that instead. One thing worth knowing: live musicians book up about five months out, so plenty of couples lock in their date and package now and add a ceremony musician later in the year once they’ve decided.
Do you play our genres, or do you have a “vibe”?
Our vibe is your crowd. A wedding isn’t a club where everyone’s the same age — you’ve got grandparents, college roommates, coworkers, cousins, and nobody there likes just one kind of music. That’s why we built Rotate the Dance Floor: we play in short sets so it moves between eras and genres without whiplash. You can’t go T-Pain into Garth Brooks into Whitney and expect the floor to survive it. There are three steps: you put your must-plays and do-not-plays in the client portal, your DJ reads the room and adjusts live, and you can walk up any time during the night and ask for something.
Do you set up ceremony and reception separately?
Yes — we cover up to three locations, all set up before anything begins. Ceremony sound and mics in one spot, a speaker at cocktail hour if it’s in a different area, and the main rig in the reception room. For a 4pm ceremony we’re on site by 1:30 and playing prelude music at 3:30. You’ll never see us moving gear during your event.
Is there an hourly limit?
No. We only take one wedding a day, so we’re not watching the clock or charging you by the hour — you get us for your event. If you want to keep the party going past your planned end time, just talk to your DJ that night and we’ll work it out.
