DIY Wedding Invitations: Know Your Options

We love good stationary as much as the next person, but the idea of putting a bunch of energy into finding the “perfect” wedding invitation may seem a bit unnecessary. But there is for sure some validity to spending some energy crafting your invitations.

Wedding invitations are the first thing your guests see (well, maybe second if you’ve sent out “save the dates,” but for argument’s purpose, we’ll consider the two akin) and can help them get a feel for what kind of wedding it will be: casual, outdoor, formal, beach, mountain, etc. First impressions, as you know since you’re about to get married, are a lot of times the most important.

But when it comes to wedding invitations, where do you start? Hopefully we can help.

It should be noted that we are not stationary professionals, nor it is a part of our product suite -- we just like weddings, so we kind of geek out of reading about it.

Know Your Style

The first step in deciding what wedding invitations you should send out is knowing what style of wedding you’d like to have. How formal is your wedding? Do you want a classic style or modern? Would you like a little levity or keep it traditional? All these questions need to be answered before deciding on what kind of invitation to put in the mail.

Get Creative

Before going to the local office store and grabbing some blank cards or something off-the-shelf, ask yourself: “Can I make this fun?” The answer is yes, especially if you have an Internet connection. There are about a million ideas on Pinterest and Etsy for wedding invitations and we think you should use them as inspiration.

It can be tempting to outsource this process, but where’s the fun in that? Yes, it’ll be more work to do the invitations on your own, but we say the more work, the more reward! If the task seems daunting, don’t worry, there are plenty of resources out there to help you through it and enough open-source design platforms to make you look like you graduated from S.C.A.D.

Obviously, you won’t be able to do the printing, but the money you save on the design should help you get a good stock and really impress your soon-to-be guests.

While we may not be the stationary experts in the wedding industry, we do know how to bring the party with our wedding DJs and live music. Drop us a line today and let’s talk weddings.
