3 Awesome Winter Wedding Ideas

Whether you like it or not, winter is upon us, which means turtleneck sales are on the rise and Southerners are complaining about the 55 degree walk to lunch. But winter brings with it a magical time, and some couples choose to harvest that energy for their wedding. Winter weddings can be a ton of fun if done right and with a little creativity you can tap into the fun the season has to offer.

Now, we’re not talking about snowball fights and sledding from your ceremony down the hill to the reception (but could you imagine?). We’ve come up with a few creative and awesome ideas that use winter as an inspiration.

Winter Bouquet

Embrace the time of year with a winter bouquet for your wedding. Winter is classically beautiful and with some help from your local florist, you can parallel that when walking the aisle. Think about white flowers with dark accents (we’ve seen pinecones), or take a Christmas theme and carry a red and green bouquet. There are no wrong answers here.

You can even carry the theme over into your reception with winter-inspired centerpieces for your tables.

Wedding Favors

If you’re planning on giving your guests a little “thank you” present as they leave your wedding, then think about continuing the winter theme. Christmas ornaments make great wedding favors and your guests will remember how much fun they had at your wedding each year while decorating the tree.

If you want something not associated with a holiday, think about coffee mugs with hot chocolate mixes. Everyone loves a hot cup of cocoa when it’s almost freezing outside. And, worst case scenario, your guests refuse to take them and you have a year’s supply of hot chocolate. That is a total win-win situation.

Post-Wedding

There are a ton of winter wedding ideas, but don’t forget about what happens when the DJ packs up their equipment and the caterers haul off the last of the champagne flutes: the honeymoon! Now, it’s easy to set your sights on a warm beach and a cold pina colada, but let’s not jump the gun here. There are plenty of destinations that are beautiful and perfect in winter.

Imagine spending a week in a snow-blanketed cabin, skiing, drinking hot drinks, snuggling next to the fire with your new husband or wife. From Aspen to Vail to Lake Tahoe, there are plenty of places to find a snowy hill and a great scene.

Baby, it’s cold outside, but the warmth at your winter wedding will be sure to have people talking. Now get them moving with some great music!
