Pre-Wedding Trip Ideas. Because, Why Not?

Honeymoons may be the think you’re most looking forward to if you’re planning a wedding. Listen, we totally get it. You’re on a high from your wedding and seeing all your family in friends celebrating your love — why wouldn’t you be stoked to go on an awesome trip? But why limit the fun to after the wedding? Hear us out.

If you’re not huge into big wedding affairs, then why not divert some of that cash you had stocked away for a wedding into a long weekend getaway before you say “yes.” Not only will it be fun and exciting and a great way to launch into the excitement of your pending nuptials, but, and maybe more importantly, it’s an effective way to destress from all the planning.

pre wedding trip ideas

Here are some easy ideas to get a quick getaway (assuming you’re flying out of Atlanta) before you walk down the aisle. Trust us, you’ll be happy you did.

Asheville - Charleston - Nashville

These three cities are very close to Atlanta and all three offer very different experiences. But the one thing they have in common is they’re all great places to spend a few days. The beauty of it, too, is you don’t have to fly if you don’t want to, so the trip, in its entirety, can be pretty inexpensive.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Asheville: Mountains, beer, and an eclectic downtown area. Catch a show at the Orange Peel if you’re into awesome, national touring bands. Don’t miss out on the River Arts District. Just don’t. Staying downtown can be a bit pricey, but you can find an AirBnB or VRBO rental a quick cab ride away for a great price.
  • Charleston: Food, history, beach, and… food. Did we mention the food? Charleston’s food scene is one of the best in the world and you could spend a week eating at various restaurants and haunts and you wouldn’t get tired of it. A quick sprint over to Folley Beach is good to grab some sun before your crack open your 112th oyster.
  • Nashville: Music, urban, and Southern fun. Nashville is the musical epicenter of the South, if not the entire East Coast, so wherever you go, you’re sure to run into some awesome tunes. It’s a booming metro that has a lot to offer everyone who steps foot on its streets. Don’t miss out on a chance to walk down Broadway and catch a honkey tonk bar.

the Caribbean, but we recommend Belize

Yup, we went there. Belize is an incredibly diverse and beautiful country that is less than a three-hour flight from Atlanta. While growing in popularity, Belize can still feel isolated if you’re on the mainland and plays home to some of the best Maya ruins in Central America. Take a boat out to any one of the hundreds of small islands off its coast for a postcard Caribbean experience. Belize is a must for any passionate divers, as it’s one of the best in the world.

But if you’re looking for a more traditional Caribbean experience, think about Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or the Bahamas.

Head West

Interested in traveling a bit farther, but staying in the U.S.? There are a TON of places to visit within our own boarder. The first city that comes to mind, especially in the summer, is Denver. Not only does it have one of the best beer scenes in the county, Denver is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and is an outdoorsman’s paradise. The city that sees 300 days of summer is littered with parks of volleyball players, innovative breweries, and so many outdoor choices that it can make your head spin. Bring your hiking boots, fo’ sho’!

If hiking and beer isn’t your thing, keep going west to the coast. If you find a good deal to San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Portland, or L.A., you should jump on it. Cue up the Two Pac song.
